The Gilbert Temple open house starts this week and it's really got us talking to Jason about temples (especially as we get to drive by this beautiful, sacred building a few times a month). It's got me thinking that Johnny has never heard the word family used, even though he knows who everyone in our family is.
FHE: Family
Lesson: I showed Johnny a picture of our extended family and asked him to tell me who was in the picture. As he pointed people out we talked about them. When we were done, I said, "This is our family," and ask him to repeat the word. I told him that families are made up of a mommy and daddy and children. Then we talked about what families do for each other. Families love each other (we each gave him a hug). Families help each other (we picked up a mess together). In a family, children listen to their mommy and daddy (we asked him to get his coat from the other room). In a family, Mommy and Daddy take care of their children (we put his coat on him).
Activity: Then we went on a walk together and asked him more questions about our family. (Where does our family live? Who is in our family?)
Treat: Make a house using graham crackers and frosting to talk about where families live.
